Phreesia is a national leader in patient intake management software solutions for the healthcare industry with offices in New York, Ottawa, and Raleigh. The local office needed more space to accommodate their growing needs, but also wanted to transition to new furniture and accommodate a more flexible and less formal open working environment that reflects their youthful employee base. They moved into 13,475 rentable square feet at Two Hannover Square in downtown Raleigh in early 2017.

About the Project

Early conversations with Phreesia revolved around open benching furniture organization concepts and the desire for a ‘Town Hall’ type cafe / informal meeting and work space. Flexibility for a firm with a rapidly growing local workforce was also of paramount importance. A further emphasis was having available expansion space planned on the same floor contiguous to their initial suite square footage.

Phreesia’s internal operations suggested the need for two types of benching – both assigned seating with users working primarily by telephone as well as hot-desking with no assigned seats for those whose work is more mobile in nature. The mobile hot-desking workforce has a seating allocation of 3 seats available for every 4 employees. These two groups needed to be located distinct from one another and would share a central informal break / mobile working / collaborative space located between the two groups. This central space would also serve as overflow seating for the rare times when enough unassigned benching is not available. Various conferencing space was also programmed as were product demonstration rooms and huddle space for small private meetings or phone calls. A series of private management offices were interspersed throughout, positioned near the areas they would need access to most frequently.

The inherent flexibility planned for, and ultimately built, into the suite is already reaping benefits as new furniture to handle increasing office density are requiring internal arrangement modifications only months after occupancy. The fact that this was anticipated during programming and planned for during design has helped deal with the rapid changes.
